Engle breaks 1,000 as Lady Eagles improve to 9-0

Engle hopes her 1,000 points gives the Lady Eagles momentum moving forward in the season.

After last night’s game at Bellefonte, Junior Kasey Engle’s career point total now stands at 1,010 points.

At tip-off Engle only needed seven points to reach the 1,000 point threshold.  As it turned out, the drama was over rather quickly as it took Engle less than 3 minutes to score her first 8 points.

Kasey’s accomplishment is a true testament to her hard work and dedication in the off season.

The point the put her over the top came on a steal, drive and lay up.  The crowd then erupted as fans from both sides applauded. The game was then suspended for several minutes to honor her accomplishment.

“I’m so thankful for my teammates because not only do we play with each other, but we play for each other. I can’t thank my teammates enough, I wouldn’t be where I am now without them,” said Engle when expressing her excitement for this accomplishment.

Engle wasn’t the only one proud of the achievement. Her fans were prepared with signs, flowers, banners, and cheers as her teammates crowded her with hugs and celebration.

“Kasey’s accomplishment is a true testament to her hard work and dedication in the off season. It is also a reflection of our hard work as a team,” Coach Luke Rhoades added.

Accompanying this great milestone, Engle and her team improved their record to 9-0. Not taking any team lightly, the Eagles were aggressive from the start of the game and put it to the Raiders early.

The undefeated record is clearly more important to Engle than the 1,000 point milestone. Instead of focusing on herself, she continued to applaud the hard work of her teammates.

“We are playing extremely well and working to improve our game every single night. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the season brings,” she added.

In addition to Engle’s 17, Christine added nine, while Sprankle and Lehman both scored eight a piece. Alexis Cannistraci had a dominant night on defense and was able to score seven.

Hoping to carry out their streak, the Lady Eagles have some tough games approaching on their schedule. They head to Juniata Valley tomorrow night to take on the Hornets (5-1).
