Engle and Christine combine for 43 points as the Lady Eagles soar over Central 61-47

Cannistraci is also a force scoring and on the boards.

Christine pulls up a shot over two Central defenders.

In their first meeting this season back on December 21, the Tyrone Lady Eagles escaped with a one point 56-55 victory over the rival Central Dragons.  This meeting was not nearly as dramatic as the Eagles pulled ahead early and cruised to a 61-47 victory.

Ahead 8-1 in the very opening minutes, Tyrone was able to play more effective defense than their first meeting with the Dragons and expanded their lead to 14 in the second.  The half ended with the Lady Eagles up 31-23.

In the third, Central closed the gap initially until the final seconds of the quarter when junior guard Kasey Engle got a steal and drew a foul.  Junior Alexis Cannistraci then hit a three and the score was 48-35. That was the last time the Dragons would threaten as Central was incapable of getting it back into the game after that.

Most of our tough league games are over now, but we control our own destiny now and we need to continue to be ready to play every night.

— Finnley Christine

“There were times we looked like an experienced well prepared team and then there were times we made careless mistakes. We need to become more consistent,” said head coach Luke Rhoades.

Leading all scorers, Kasey Engle netted 24 points, while senior Finnley Christine chipped in 19.  Alexis Cannistraci scored 12 on the night, and was a force on the boards for the Eagles.

Having multiple players in double digits is going to be very effective for the Lady Eagles when making a run in the playoffs.

Taking down the Dragons, Tyrone improved to 8-0 in the league and took another big step towards their third consecutive Mountain League Championship.

“Most of our tough league games are over now, but we control our own destiny now and we need to continue to be ready to play every night. Any team could knock us off is we aren’t prepared,” added Christine.

The Lady Eagles are back in action Friday night as they travel to Huntingdon and take on the Bearcats (4-6). Tip off at 7:30.
