After twenty-three and a half years of service to the Tyrone Area School District, long-time elementary school nurse Brenda Cowger has retired.

Cowger began working at Tyrone Elementary School in September 1998. Prior to that Cowger worked at another school for two and half years and as an ER nurse for twelve years.

“I have many wonderful memories throughout the years working with and caring for the students and their families and the staff here at our district. I’ll cherish all the memories I have from working at Tyrone,” said Cowger.

Cowger has made an impact on many students and staff members over the years and will be missed by the Tyrone school community.

Mrs. Cowger’s retirement brings many emotions at the elementary school building, according to elementary school principal Kristen Mussleman.

“Over the years, Mrs. Cowger has become more than just a nurse to the students and staff members within the building, she is a friend that keeps us all safe and healthy,” said Mussleman.

Mussleman wishes her the best on behalf of herself and the other staff members.

“While we are excited to celebrate Mrs. Cowger’s retirement and wish her well in her upcoming adventures, we are saddened to be saying “farewell” to a good friend. The elementary teachers, staff members, and students hope that Mrs. Cowger finds much deserved time to rest, relax and enjoy her hobbies, as she certainly deserves it,” said Mussleman.

Cowger hopes to do the same. In her retirement, she plans to relax, travel, and spend time with her family.

However, there is one thing that Cowger said she will not miss, “Definitely not COVID!”

“But I will truly miss every part of my job here at Tyrone Elementary School. I will miss interacting with and caring for the students daily. I will miss talking to and helping their families. I will also miss all the friendships that were created here, and I will miss seeing the wonderful teachers and staff at the elementary school,” said Cowger.
