Name: Dylan Brower

Grade: 10

How has the pandemic affected your life?

Being at home throughout the year destroyed my grades and I couldn’t find the motivation to bring them back up. There are so many things at home that could distract me. Whether it was other family members who wanted to talk or that I would rather play video games, anything and everything had a chance of getting in my way. Most of the time I also didn’t care about the work I was doing because I’d rather focus on football than do the mountains of work that was assigned to me every week.

What have you learned as a result of the pandemic?

I learned that I need help staying focused on my school work. Every class seems like it doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of life. When will I use civics or math? Those were popular thoughts within my head to justify skipping out on doing the work. In this day and age, you don’t need to know how to do most math anyway because of technology, and I don’t want to be a lawyer.

What worries are you experiencing now? How are you currently coping?

I’m worried about my grades mainly. Grades have been hard to bring back up, and the lessons for some of my classes have been hard to retain. Even in a normal school year, I would be missing some of my assignments, but never to this degree.

What are some positive things that have come out of the pandemic?

Some of the positives that have come are that I’ve gotten even closer to my family and friends. I’ve also started to love football and other sports as well because I was more worried about them than my grades.

What are your hopes for the future?

I hope that things can return to normal and that the way that the teachers have dealt with Covid changes if we go back into quarantine. I hope that they try to spread their work out over longer periods of time.
