The Tyrone boys soccer team fell 2-0 to the Phillipsburg High School Mounties on Thursday October 31st in the District 6 championship game in Hollidaysburg.

This loss concludes the boys’ season during which the team finished with the a record of 14-5-1, the best record in school history.  This season also marked Tyrone’s first ever  appearance in a district championship game.

The fifth seeded P-O Mounties beat both the first seeded Golden Eagles and second seeded Bellefonte to earn the district 6 title.

The game was close throughout the first half with most of the action occurring in Phillipsburg’s end. P-O’s first goal was scored by senior Caleb Shively with only 2:11 left in the first half.

In the second half, Tyrone held possession for much of the period and had several good scoring opportunities, including one Alex Barlett shot that hit the top of the crossbar.

P-O scored again with 32:56 to go when Phillipsburg’s 6’1″ Austin Krise’s header found the back of the goal.

“We didn’t give up, said Tyrone head coach Nick Miller, “we just didn’t finish.”

Coach Miller praised his team, particularly senior Zach Friday.

“Zach’s one of hardest workers on the team,” said Miller, “and has come through as a clutch player in tight games. His hustle is remarkable and it is because of his great efforts that he has come through as a clutch player.”

Friday, who debated even joining the team during the preseason, finished the year with 11 goals, making him the second highest scorer on the team behind fellow Bellwood senior Alex Barlett.

The championship game was the last game for many members of the Tyrone team. Tyrone will graduate 11 seniors, nine from Tyrone and two from Bellwood. These seniors are Alex Bartlett (B), Dom Berry (T), Jake Berry (T), Tristan Case (T), Bailey Christine (T), Daron Daly (T), Bobby Dawson (T), Zach Friday (T), Shawn Phillips (T), Kris Seminario (B), and Ben Shetler (T).

Despite the loss, Coach Miller viewed the season as a very successful campaign and a great step forward for Tyrone soccer in general.
