Ask the Coach with Head Coach Jason Wilson

Each week of the football season, Head Coach Jason Wilson sits down with the Eagle Eye for an exclusive interview.

Ask the Coach with Head Coach Jason Wilson

EE: Your starting defense hasn’t allowed a touchdown since week 2, what is the reason behind that?

JW: We haven’t gave up the big plays that result in scores, and everybody has been doing their responsibilities.

EE: Last year there wasn’t a single special team’s touchdown. This year you guys already scored twice, what has improved since last year?

JW: We have really put a lot of focus on the special teams. We have two kickoff returns for touchdowns. That was one of the points at the beginning of the year, that we were going to put a little more emphasis on special teams, and it has paid off.

We have to continue to get better every game. There is still a lot of places we need to improve at if we want to make a run in the playoffs.

EE: Your offense racked up 387 total yards against Bellefonte, can you talk about how they succeeded?

JW: One of the biggest keys was that we spread the ball around well. Several receivers had catches, along with our running backs Eli and Aleic both got a majority of carries. We kept the defense guessing who was going to get the ball.

EE: What is this week’s focus on Bald Eagle?

JW: The main thing is that we need to make sure we don’t overlook these guys. Friday is their homecoming, so they are going to be excited and come out of the gates fired up. Like last week, we need to make sure we start out fresh and knock the wind out of them, and play fundamentally sound.

EE: What is Bald Eagle capable of doing against other opponents?

JW: They have a bigger line than we have seen in the past few weeks. It will be a challenge for us on the line.

EE: We asked this question last week, but where can your team improve the most at?

JW: We need to keep spreading the ball around offensively. That’s what we need to do if we want to make a run in the playoffs.

EE: QB Garrett Hunter seems to be building up a lot of confidence, what is the reasoning for that?

JW: He is being relaxed in the pocket, and finding the open receivers. He started off well throwing 10 for 10 this past week which is a sign of that. We are blocking well up front and keeping Garrett protected.

EE: The regular season is half way over, and your team is standing tall at 5-0. What are your thoughts going into second half of the season?

JW: We have to continue to get better every game. There is still a lot of places we need to improve at if we want to make a run in the playoffs.

EE: Who do you think has stood out the most in the previous week?

JW: Garrett, he had a great game throwing the ball. He hit his first ten targets. Not many quarterbacks can start off like he did. He finished the game with 170 yards and two touchdowns.
