Volleyball Set to Win

Despite their record of 1-19, the Tyrone girl’s varsity volleyball team is pleased with how they competed with the other local school this year.

Jim Cushion, head coach, stated, “I am extremely proud of the effort the girls put forward this year.”

The girls defeated the Williamsburg volleyball team in three out of five sets leading to their first victory of the year.

The junior varsity team also had a good year, with a record of 9-11.

Ted Bloom, the new assistant coach, has much experience with the game of volleyball. He played on his high school team at Central, at Lock Haven throughout college, and he also continues to play in men’s leagues around the state.

At the last varsity practice of the season, Coach Bloom invited seventh and eighth grade girls, looking to pursue volleyball in their high school career, in the hopes of uplifting the program and preparing the next generation of Tyrone varsity volleyball players.

Senior, Casey Branstetter, recalled her favorite memory from the season, “The win early in the season really sticks out because it showed how much we had improved as a team in less than a year.”
