This has season of firsts for Tyrone volleyball, even in defeat.  Despite suffering a 3-1 loss to Philipsbug, the Lady Eagles were able to take a set from the Mounties for the first time in team history.

“To most people one set doesn’t mean anything,” said Shaniah Lowery, “but for Tyrone it’s a giant step and growth from what Tyrone volleyball used to mean.”

The final score was 25-19 PO, 25-20 PO, 25-21 Tyrone, and 25-21 PO.

“We served great, passed great, attacked okay and played good defense.  It seemed like with each new point, one more spectator entered the gym,” said head coach Michael Kraft, “In game 3, Tyrone jumped out to a 15-5 lead and then PO creeped back within 2 points later in the game. The girls stood their ground and finished strong with a 25-21 win in game 3.”

Lea Crofcheck leadwith 21 assists, 1 kill, 3 aces, 2 blocks and 4 digs. Alexis Cannistraci was second with 6 kills, 1 ace, 4 blocks and 2 digs.

“Tyrone volleyball has never scored high against a team like PO,” said Cannistraci, “we were the first team to score over 15, let alone beat them in one set.”

Torrie Foy had 4 kills, 3 aces, 9 digs and Emily Fusco had 5 digs.

“After winning game three we were super excited,” said Fusco, ” but we had to focus in order to win game four and five.”

“Game 4 we seemed mentally fatigued from the battling we endured,” said Kraft, “Philipsburg plays such a good mental, consistent game, you have to play perfect to beat them. We are still young and quickly learning.”

Shaniah Lowery had 5 kils and 7 digs during Tuesdays game, Anslee Walk had 20 digs.

The Tyrone Lady Eagles are 6-8 overall and take on Central tonight, Thursday October 22nd.

“The girls are excited and they are passionate. We’ve stressed that passion can beat logic every time. Tuesday’s passion almost proved that,” said Kraft.
