Tyrone lost to Central and Juniata Valley last week

Tyrone vs. Central

The Tyrone Golden Eagles baseball team suffered two tough losses their opening two games.

The boys started their season off on the road against the 2014 state runner-up and District IX Champions Central Dragons. Central defeated Tyrone 11-4.

Tyrone battled Central the first few innings, holding them to a 3-1 lead going into the bottom of the 3th inning, but Central pulled away with a big six run bottom of the third.

Central’s Jay Stern had two hits, and Nick Hoenstine, Mike Mock, Mitchell Conrath and Cullen Gahagan each knocked in two runs to lead Central over Tyrone.

Tyrone vs. Juniata Valley

The Tyrone baseball team fell to Juniata Valley in their home opener 7-5.

Tyrone had a chance to win the game in the bottom of the 7th inning with the game tied at 5.

With a base runner on third with 2 outs, Sophomore Gary Weaver hit a pop up to shallow right field, but Juniata Valley’s second basemen was in great field position. The game went into extra innings.

The Hornets capitalized in the top of the 8th, scoring 2 runs to take a 7-5 lead. Tyrone had no answer on offense, and the Hornets sealed the victory.

Tyrone was led by Lingafelt and Maceno who each had two RBIs for the Golden Eagles.
