Tyrone Track Squad Produces Low Times for High Scores

Both Tyrone track squads were victorious over Philipsburg-Osceola and Bald Eagle Area in a close to freezing temperature tri-meet on Tuesday April 5th.

The boys defeated Phillipsburg-Osceola by a score of 80-70 and Bald Eagle 84-65. The girls stole their first two wins of the season with a 29 point victory over PO (89-60) and 13 points over BEA (79-66).

“The girls are showing tremendous effort this season and are showing more confidence in their events,” said Head Coach Chris Shedd, “We’re a step up from last year due to the hard work the girls put in to secure the win over both BE and Philipsburg.”

“As for the boys, even though we were short several people due to other activities, the athletes that were there stepped up and produced good results.  I was extremely proud of them,” said Shedd.

Tyrone’s new member Michael Lewis won a nail-biter in the  110 hurdles against Payton Moore from Phillipsburg-Osceola by one one-hundredths of a second (Lewis: 17.31, Moore: 17.32). Lewis also stole the win in triple jump was a leap of 39’3”.

Parker Mitchell won two events for the Tyrone boys in the 100 meter dash (11.56 seconds) and 200 meter dash (24.30 seconds).

Distance runners Joe Kholer and Adam Zook carried the 1600 meter run in just over 5 minutes, winning first and second place respectively.

For the Lady Eagles, senior jumper and sprinter Erika Voyzey scored quadruple win in the high jump, 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, and anchor leg on the winning 400 meter relay team.

Senior Emily Beam dominated the 800 meter dash with a time 2:50.28 minutes, and the 1600 meter run with a time of 6:17.93 minutes.

Fellow senior Carly Crofcheck reigned in the javelin (96’9”).

Boys Track Events 

Other winners include seconds place Will Lash (11.58 seconds) and third place Danial Lay (12.01 seconds) in the 100 meter dash. Lay also placed third in the 110 meter hurdles.

In the 400 meter dash junior Grayson Putt came in third with a time of 57.4 seconds.

In the 3200 meter run, J. Kohler placed second with a time of 11:13.28 minutes.

In the one mile run, senior Adam Zook took second place with a time of 5:02. He also placed third in the two mile run with a time of 11:35.

Boys Field Events

In the high jump, Jake Meredith came in second place with a height of 5’8”.

Senior Cullen Raftery came in first in long jump with a distance of 19’10”.

Discus held two Tyrone place winners: Nick Bonsell was second with 117’5” Jeff McNelis came in third throwing 112’11”.

Finally in javelin, Jeffery McNelis placed first with a threw of 129’2” and John Chronister came in first throwing a distance of 123’1”.

Girls Track Events

Junior Makenzie Stauffer came in first place in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 18.8 seconds.

Sophomore Tori Crabtree blew away 400 meter dash with a new personal record, finishing the race in 1:06 seconds and placed second in the 200 meter dash.

Sean Dawson placed second in the 3200 meter run with a time of 14:57.22.

Payton Wagner ran a swift 57.00 second 300 meter hurdle to place second.

Tyrone also won the 400 meter relay (Crabtree, Stauffer, L. Crofcheck, and Voyzey) with a team time of 56.58 seconds and the 1600 meter relay (P. Wagner, Johnson, Beam, and Crabtree).

Girls Field Events

Lexi Cannistraci placed third with a height of 4’0” and placed third in triple jump with a distance of 28’0”.

Sophomore Lea Crofcheck came in first in the long jump with a distance of 13’10″. Also in long jump, Alexis Stevens placed third in with a leap of 12’11”.
