Tyrone track makes impact at Mountain League Championship Meet

Tyrone Golden Eagle Track Team went to Bald Eagle for the Mountain league championships ready to win on Wednesday, May 7.

While Clearfield and Penn’s Valley ended up dominating the team points, many of Tyrone’s individuals and relay teams did not disappoint, bringing home several medals

“The team performed at their highest level of the season,” said head coach Chris Shedd, “our prospects for a districts are good.   If we carry forward with last night’s performances, we might need two vans for States.”

The boys finished the meet in fourth place.

Senior James Oliver and junior Cameron Bakhsheshe both placed in the 100m dash. Oliver ran an 11.22 placing 1st; Bakhsheshe finished with a 11.57 only .35 seconds behind his teammate placing 3rd.

Continuing his form, Bakhsheshe placed 2nd in the 200m dash with a time of 23.63.

In the 400m dash, junior Duane Boone placed 3rd with a time of 33.43.

Adam Zook placed 5th in the 800m with a time of 2:12.81. Zook also placed 3rd in the 1600m with a time of 4:54.

The boys 4 by 100 team of Goss, Connor Harper, Bakhsheshe, and Oliver placed second as did the 4 by 400 relay team of Jake Makdad, Oliver, Harper, and Boone.

Personal bests were achieved by Scott Goss in the high jump, Connor Stroud in the 1600, Duane Boone in the 400, Jeffrey McNelis who placed 6th in the javelin and had a PR in the discus, as well as James Oliver in the 100 meters and Cameron Bakhsheshe in the 200. Garrett Hunter placed 4th in the javelin.

On the girls side, senior Jordyn Swogger achieved a season’s best in the 200, winning the event in a time of 26.33.

Overall, the girls team finished in fifth place.

Sophomore Jordan Wiser had a season’s best in the 1600, placing third, while the girls 4 by 100 relay team of Michaela Diehl, Jordyn Swogger, Lexi Patton, and Erika Voyzey also had a season’s best time on their way to victory.

Erika Voyzey won the high jump with a jump of 5-6.

The team of Voyzey, Wiser, Diehl, and Swogger came close to a season’s best in dominating the 4 by 400 relay.

These athletes will try to extend their season by attempting to qualify for States at Tuesday’s District VI Championships at Mansion Park.
