The Tyrone boys and girls tracks teams both beat Philipsburg-Osceola but lost to Penns Valley in a tri-meet at home on Tuesday, April 9.

The boys defeated Phillipsburg-Osceola by a score of 82-68 and lost to Penns Valley by the same score.  The girls beat Phillipsburg 87-62 but fell to Penns Valley by a narrow margin, 59-57.

Highlights for the Golden Eagles included a quadruple win by sophomore jumper Erika Voyzey, who won the high jump, the long jump, and the triple jump and ran on the winning 4 x 100 relay team.

“Our 4 x 100 relay was so exciting.  The girl [from the other team] was right behind me.  It was scary but fun,” said Voyzey.

Fellow sophomore Jordan Wiser was a double winner, taking the 800 meter run and the 1600 meter run for the Lady Eagles.

For the boys, a highlight was a 1-2-3 finish in the 100 year dash by Duane Boone, Cameron Backsheshe and Conner Harper.

Boys Track Events 

In the boys 100 meter dash junior Cameron Backsheshe took first with a time of 11.78 seconds and sophomore Scott Goss finished second place with a time of 12.29 seconds.

In the 200 meter dash junior Duane Boone came in first with a time of 24.22 seconds, Backsheshe came in second with a time of 24.23 seconds, and Conner Harper came in third with a time of 24.43 seconds.

Senior John Lewis placed third in the 400 meter dash with a time of 57.94 seconds.

In the 800 meter run sophomore Sean Isenberg placed third with a time of 2:21.

In the one mile run sophomore Adam Zook took second place with a time of 5:02. He also placed third in the two mile run with a time of 11:35.

For the 300 meter hurdles, senior John Lewis came in third with a time of 49.29 seconds.

In the 400 meter relay, Tyrone scored first place with a team time of 46.9 seconds.

Boys Field Events

In the high jump, Graser came in third place, jumping 5’2”.

In the long jump freshman Cullen Raferty came in third with a distance of 17’3” and also placed third in the triple jump with a distance of 39’4”.

In the shot put junior Eli Sleeth placed third throwing a distance of 36’9”.

In discus Jeff McNelis came in third throwing 97’3”.

Finally in javelin John Chronister came in first, throwing a distance of 123’4”, and Garrett Hunter placed second with a distance of 114’6”.

Girls Track Events

Senior Jordyn Swogger placed first in the 200 meter dash, running with a time of 26.95 seconds. In the 100 meter dash Swogger came in second place with a time of 13.19 seconds.

Junior Michaela Diehl came in second place in the 200 with a time of 28.8 seconds.

Sophomore Jordan Wiser came in first place in the one mile run, completing the race in 5:56.

In the 400 meter dash sophomore Emily Beam came in third place with a time of 1:11.

Tyrone also won the 400 meter relay with a team time of 52.58 seconds. and the 1600 meter relay with a time of 4:29.

Girls Field Events

Sophomore Erica Voyzey, the meet’s lone triple winner,  placed first in the high jump with a height of 5’2”, first in the long jump with a distance of 15 feet, and first in the triple jump with a distance of 31’11.5”.

Junior Marin Grabill came in second in the long jump with a distance of 13’6.5”.

In shot put senior Mariah Robinson came in third place, throwing 29’9”.
