The Tyrone Golden Eagle swim team season came to a close this past weekend at the District 6 Championship meet at Penn State University’s McCoy Natatorium.

The team took thirteen swimmers to the District 6 meet on Friday February 28th and Saturday March 1st. This group of swimmers was composed of students from Tyrone, Bellwood and Bishop Guilfoyle.

It was a rough meet for Tyrone as they were heavily outnumbered by the other schools competing but there were still some successful individual performances.

Tyrone Senior Rhett Everhart made the podium with a 6th place finish in the 200 yard freestyle and 5th place finish in the 500 yard freestyle swims.

The 500 yard swim was actually Everhart’s last single’s event of his illustrious career as a Tyrone swimmer.

Junior Mikayla Harris also made the podium in the girls 50 yard freestyle placing 4th.

“Mikayla has consistently been in the top 6 or 7 since her freshman year. She is a strong solid swimmer who works hard to make herself better,” said Getz about Harris.

Another highlight from meet came from Bishop Guilfoyle swimmer, and member of the Tyrone swim team, Ben McConnell.

McConnell made the podium by placing 4th in the boys 100 yard breaststroke.

The districts meet unfortunately ended the season with no swimmers advancing to the state level.

However, team has a lot to look forward to. It is a young group of swimmers who have lot of potential to improve next year.

“Congratulations to senior swimmers Rhett Everhart, Johnny Payne, Emily Nagle and Emily Hanwell on great swimming careers. I wish them the best in their future” said Coach Tom Getz.
