Tyrone Sophomore Continues to Excel in Gymnastics

Tyrone sophomore Olivia Barr’s gymnastics season is off to a promising start.  Over the past two weeks, Barr has competed in two competitions and has come home with medals in both.

In her last competition Barr earned two third place medals, one second place medal, and two first place medals.

She earned a 9.31 on vault, an 8.7 on bars, a 8.9 on beam, a 9.0 on floor, and a 35.75 on the all around.

With third place medals on vault and beam, a second place medal on floor, and first place medals on bars and the all around, Barr went home happy with her results of that meet.

“Olivia did a fantastic job. I can’t wait to see her improve as the season goes on. She works so hard and spends an endless amount of time at her gym, perfecting all her routines for all four events. She deserves so much congratulations for this meet and all the meets ahead,” said sophomore Hannah Gampe, who travelled to Altoona to see her friend compete.

On Sunday, December 4th, Olivia Barr competed in the Kristal Uzelac Invitational at the Uzelac Gym in Johnstown.

There were four other gyms competing at this invitational, but the majority of the girls were from Uzelac Gymnastics.

Barr scored a 9.0 on vault, an 8.4 on uneven bars, an 8.1 on the balance beam, a 9.025 on floor, and a 34.525 on the all around.

“I’m just happy I landed my dismount on bars,” said Barr.

Barr won a second place medal on the floor, a fourth place medal on the uneven bars, and two fifth place medals, one on vault and one on beam.   In the All-Around Competition, she placed fourth.

“I loved going to the meet. It was so incredible to see Olivia compete at such a challenging level. She is so dedicated and works so hard everyday to become the best she can be. I look up to her as a role model and hope one day I can try as hard at something I love as she does,” said Ava McCracken.
