Are you a leader or would you like to develop your leadership skills?

Have you participated in community service projects?

Are you ready to meet new friends and have fun?

The Tyrone Rotary would like any current Tyrone High School sophomores and juniors who answered yes to these questions to apply for the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) program on the campus of Juniata College from June 14 – 17.

RYLA is a four day all expense paid academy for high school students interested in learning more about leadership, teamwork, communication and volunteerism from community leaders.

We are looking for students who have an interest in learning more about leadership in all walks of life, how effective teams work and show an interest in volunteer work,

— Kathy Krinks

Students who attend RYLA will participate in various types of team building exercises, classroom instruction, and hands on activities.  Participants learn about the importance of volunteerism and how they can make a difference in the world.  Attendees also meet and network with fellow high school students from Pennsylvania, Maryland and West Virginia.

“We are looking for students who have an interest in learning more about leadership in all walks of life, how effective teams work and show an interest in volunteer work,” said Tyrone Rotary Officer Kathy Krinks.

“We have teamwork activities that can teach students how to interact in a positive way in a group, lessons on how to be a more effective speaker, or get over the nervousness of speaking in public,” said Krinks, “we introduce them to volunteer activities, talk about different leadership styles so one can learn to adapt to others in a group or job,  and allow them to work through a project to put these things into use.”

The Rotary Club of Tyrone has budgeted funds to pay for two current sophomore or junior students from Tyrone High School to attend the annual event.

A committee from the Tyrone Rotary will interview all interested candidates and select two to receive the scholarship award.

Interested students can download a application by clicking RYLA Student APP 2015.  The deadline for submitting applications is April 10, 2015.

They are also available online at www.district7360.org/RYLA_program and can be dropped off at the high school Guidance Office.  Or sent to Kathy Krinks, the address is on the application.
