Tyrone girls volleyball shuts down Penns Valley in 3-1 set

The Tyrone varsity girls volleyball team brought their “A” game against Penns Valley on Wednesday evening.

After losing the first set 25-23 The Lady Eagles won set two 25-21 and stuffed Penns Valley out in the third set with 25-19. The forth set went in over-count with 28-26.

“I expect us to win every match regardless of who we play,” said head coach Michael Kraft.

“We changed our lineup after Bellwood and met as a team right before we departed for Penns Valley.  The girls responded well and weathered the storm to get the victory,” added Kraft.

“We were better in serve receive and we found how to finish the game,” said sophomore Emily Fusco, “some passes and hits could have been better but we still played hard.”

Junior Alexis Cannistraci had 17 digs and 9 kills to rack up the points for the Lady Eagles.

“I’m excited to see what we have in store for games to come,” said Cannistraci.

Senior Carly Crofcheck had 23 assists and 5 aces and senior Anslee Walk dominated in the back with 42 digs and 4 aces.

“The girls have improved their confidence and determination to win. Playing one point at a time and being mentally engaged helped greatly. We are improving with each point we play,” said Kraft.

Next week the Lady Eagles are at Juniata Valley on Monday and play Bellefonte at home on Tuesday.
