Tyrone falls to rival Huntingdon on senior night

Tyrone boys soccer team celebrated its senior night Thursday, but unfortunately fell to rival Huntingdon 3-1.

Before the game Tyrone recognized seniors Anthony Politza (Tyrone), Eric Hartsock (Tyrone), Noah D’Angelo (Bellwood), Nic Mallory (Bellwood), Amado Cardozo (Bellwood), and Brennan Mckendree (Bellwood) for all of their accomplishments and favorite memories throughout their high school careers in honor of their last home game.

After getting a slim victory Tuesday versus Central, Tyrone knew they’d have to play at a much higher level if they wanted to contend with Huntingdon, the top team in the Mountain League. Tyrone also had some extra motivation from a large senior night crowd.

In the first half Tyrone had Huntingdon in a jam. With dominant possession and precise passing Tyrone had Huntingdon’s defense on its feet.  However, Tyrone was unable to finish any shots or capitalize on opportunities. Luckily Tyrone’s stout defense held the Bearcats to just five shots on goal in the first half. Both teams were scoreless in the first half.

Going into the second half the Tyrone looked like a completely different team. They couldn’t maintain any possession, and couldn’t hold up on defense. The Bearcats pounced on the Golden Eagles with three unanswered goals in the second half.

Tyrone struggles continued for the majority of half until senior Amado Cardozo lifted Tyrone’s spirits a bit with a late goal. Making the final score 3-1 Bearcats.

The loss evened Tyrone’s record at 6-6.
