Hollidaysburg Sinks Tyrone Swim Teams; Slobodik and Decker Notch Double Wins

Despite the double loss to Hollidaysburg, one of the top swim teams in the area, the Tyrone boys still had two double winners with Blake Slobodnik and Jacob Decker. 

Meanwhile, both the girls and boys Tyrone swim teams tried their best, but were dominated. The girls team was crushed 63-107, while the boys struggled with a 64-105 score.

Tyrone vs. Hollidaysburg Swimming

Girls: Tyrone- 63, Hollidaysburg- 107

The team of Anastasia Slobodnik, Cate Baran, Mae Decker, and Fiona McConnell worked to a first place in the 200 free relay. The girls also earned two second places in the 220 medley and 400 free relay.

Freshman McConnell placed first in the 100 breaststroke, improving three seconds in the process. Her final time was 1:17.89. McConnell also placed second in the 50 free.

M. Decker secured two seconds places in the 500 free (6:16.08) and 100 back (1:13.07). She also dropped two seconds from the last meet in the 500.

Alli Hosko earned two third places in both the 200 free and 100 butterfly. She improved six seconds from the previous meet in the butterfly with a final time of 1:26.27.

A. Slobodnik placed second in the 100 free with a time of 1:03.76. She also secured a third place for the girls in the 100 breast.

Bellwood sophomore Olivia Thomas dropped 5 seconds in the 100 back from her previous time, securing a time of 1:24.88.

“I think we did pretty good because we all swam hard. We just need to work on the little things like turns and starts. I hope the team can try their best at all the remaining meets,” said Thomas.

Sophomore Hannah Gampe worked off six seconds in the 500 free from the last meet, earning a 7:08.46.

Boys: Tyrone- 64, Hollidaysburg- 105

In the 200 free relay, Brendan Kowalski, Jules Collet, Matt Beam, and Bryce Bauer placed second for Tyrone. In the other two relays (200 medley and 400 free), the Tyrone boy’s teams placed second each time.

The boys team had two double winners at the meet: Jacob Decker and Blake Slobodnik.

J. Decker won in both the 200 free (2:01.25) and the 100 back (1:04.60).

B. Slobodnik placed first in the 200 IM and the 500 free. He improved by five seconds from his previous 500 time. His final time was 5:47.04.

The only solo first place was from Bishop Guilfoyle freshman Matt Lenze in the 100 breast with a time of 1:11.46. Lenze also secured a second place in the 100 free.

“I think that we had a great team effort, but we came up short. We gave it our best, but they are a really good team. We did all that we could, but Hollidaysburg is a very hard team to beat,” said Lenze.

Bauer earned two third places in both the 50 free and 100 back.

Carter Maceno worked off seven seconds from his previous 500 time, ending with a 6:51.98. He also improved by a second in the 200 IM.

“I think we did well and had some strong wins. I hope there is a lot of kids who make Districts. I really enjoyed our team this year,” said Maceno.

Freshman Nick DelBaggio dropped a second from his last 200 IM time, finishing with a 2:49.78.

Junior Beam dropped a second in the 100 fly from the previous meet.
