Tyrone bounces back with a 70-55 win over Philipsburg

Despite a slow start last night, the Tyrone Lady Eagles used their loss from Bellwood Antis for motivation, beating Philipsburg on Dec. 10th 70-55.

The teams were tied for the majority of the game, but Tyrone was able to break out in the fourth quarter to even their season record at 1-1.

“I thought we played sluggish and made many young mistakes early but some girls stepped up and did well” said head coach Lucas Rhoades.

In the first quarter Philipsburg played extremely well holding Tyrone to only six baskets and by half time the score was 33-31 with Tyrone leading by only two.

“It’s hard to play in an atmosphere like Philipsburg after an emotional game at Bellwood” said sophomore Kasey Engle “We didn’t come out with much intensity but we pulled away in the fourth quarter.”

“We didn’t play to our full potential in the first half” said sophomore Alexis Cannistraci who hit a vital three point shot in the fourth quarter.

Both teams came out aggressively after halftime,  keeping fans on the edge of their seats.

It wasn’t until the fourth quarter that Tyrone took control of the game. A few outside shots by Finnley Christine and Kasey Engle were key to the win. Both had three outside shots for a total of 18 points.

The Lady Eagles will next play Central this Friday 7:30 in Tyrone.
