The Look Ahead: Philipsburg Edition

On the schedule this week for the Golden Eagles are the Mounties of Philipsburg. The Mounties bring a record of 0-3 to Gray Field tonight, but they are a lot stronger than their record shows. The Eagles have a record of 2-1, but they will have to be on their toes if they want to pull out a win this Friday.

The Mounties bring back a significant number of starters from last year. However, because they are learning a new defensive system under defensive coordinator and former Tyrone head coach Steve Guthoff, they have given up quite a bit of points over the last few games. But once adjustments are made,  Guthoff’s coaching skills and winning attitude should help to turn this young Mountie defense around.

The Eagles will look to repeat their performance against Huntingdon and control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. Tyrone’s line is still trying to redeem themselves after their poor showing two weeks ago against Central. Coach Lechner, Coach Gummo, and Coach McNelis have been working on the little things with the offensive and defensive lines this week, and they are looking to show what all of the hard work is for. The receivers have also been working hard this week. Their goal is to show that they can still be good even though they’re young and inexperienced.

On offense the Mounties have many different looks, but last week they are shifted toward the pro-style offense. They also have the spread look in their back pocket if they choose to use it. The Eagles are ready for either offense they choose, as Coach Wilson has taken into account that they may switch it up during the course of the game.

This will be a test for the Eagles to see if they can maintain their momentum. If you want to see the end result, then come down to Gray-Veterans Memorial Field this Friday at 7:00.
