The Look Ahead: Huntingdon Playoff Edition

The cGolden Eagles have become accustomed to going to the post season and look to go even deeper than they did last season. They’ve had a taste of District 6 gold and are looking to get there again.

But this time around they know that it takes more than skill to play deep into November. The Eagles have been taking advantage of every little thing to better themselves going into this do or die scenario.

This week the Eagles face a well-known opponent, the Huntington Bearcats. This will be the fourth time in two years that the Eagles and the Bearcats will play. So the players and coaches have become very familiar with each other. They have learned things that each position/ player can do to push their team over the top.

This game will come down to the little things just like their last meeting in week three. The Eagles may have won the game by a score of 42-21, but the game was a lot closer than the score indicated. The Bearcats had a few calls that went the wrong way that could have made the score a little closer.

So what are the Bearcats going to change this time around?

The Bearcats may have to go to their wildcat formation with John Wagner at quarterback, because quarterback Hudson Speck injured his ankle, but is still likely to play. With Wagner at quarterback the Eagles will have to be aggressive and tackle better than they did last week since Wagner is a physical and speedy back.

The keys for the Eagles will be the same as they are most weeks. The Eagles will look to run the ball early and wear down the core of the Huntington defense. The field may be muddy so that plays right into the game plan for the Eagles.

If the ground game falters, the Eagles also have Drew Hunter and company to back it up. Hunter and his wide receivers all had big games against Huntington’s secondary last game, and are looking to do much of the same this time around.

This time of year separates the men from the boys; along with some cold weather. This Friday’s shown down between the Eagles and the Bearcats will be a battle right down to the end. So don’t miss a second of it, be there at Gray-Veterans Memorial Field at 7 pm.
