The third-seeded Tyrone Lady Eagles season came to an end Friday as they fell short to fifth-seeded Westmont Hilltop 56-47 in the District 6 Class AA girls consolation game at the Hollidaysburg Area High School Gymnasium.

I’m very proud of my team and how hard we worked this season. We couldn’t have done it without Coach Rhoades there to push us and support us

— senior Lindsey Kemp

“It was a game we definitely could have won.  It’s disappointing but we have to put the past behind us and move on,” said senior Lindsey Kemp, playing in her last game as a Lady Eagle.

The girls were looking to bounce back from their tough loss against Bellwood, but they just couldn’t get things clicking.

The game was tight through the first quarter, both teams were putting points up. Westmont took a 15-14 lead going into the second quarter.

In the second, the Lady Eagles dug themselves into a hole, trailing 32-22 at the half.

After halftime, the Lady Eagles were outscored again, going into the fourth quarter trailing by 12.

The game seemed to be getting out of hand with just little time remaining. Kasey Engle and her teammates would not give up though. the lady’s rallied and cut the game to 45-43 with a minute left. Westmont quickly stole the momentum back from Tyrone forcing turnovers and knocking down free throws.

“We waited too long to get things going. You can’t do that in the playoffs,” said Tyrone head coach Luke Rhoades.

“I’m very proud of my team and how hard we worked this season,” said Kemp.  “We couldn’t have done it without Coach Rhoades there to push us and support us.”

The Lady Eagles finished the season 19-6.

With just two seniors on the team, the Lady Eagles without a doubt will be a district title contender next year.
