Building for the Future: TASD House Project Making Steady Progress

Tyrone carpentry students and teacher Dan Plummer have been hard at work and making good progress on the house project this spring . Now in its third year, the house has really progressed during this 2016-2017 school year.

With about a month and a half left to go in the school year, all the concrete work is finished and students are now working on the deck and porch roof. This has been a tough job for the students being on the roof almost everyday.

“The house is awesome. When we get to go over and help, it is cool because I feel like I am contributing to all the hard work that the upperclassmen put in,

“I really enjoy going over there. It really frees the mind,” said junior Parker Mitchell.

The permanent stairs stairs are now in, which allows for easy moving from level to level in the house.

According to Mr. Plummer, next year is going to be a big year for the house. It will most likely be the final full year working on the house until it is complete.  Plummer and the returning underclassmen hope to install siding the house next year, finish the drywall, and insulate the house.

“The house is awesome. When we get to go over and help, it is cool because I feel like I am contributing to all the hard work that the upperclassmen put in,” said sophomore Denver Light.

Unfortunately next year, the house will be missing some key members of its workforce with several seniors graduating. Chuck Beard, Jess Keller, John Powow, Jake Fetters, Tanner Briggs, Drew Johnston, Casey Moore, Rob Hamp, Devon Brown, and Tyler Albert will all be graduating this year, which means the juniors will be the new guys in charge.

“These guys have been here since the beginning of the project, and they are all great role models for the underclassmen,” said Mr. Plummer.

When the house is finally finished, it will go on sale to the public.
