Tyrone area families looking for a night of safe but fun frights are encouraged to attend the 2nd annual YAN Halloween event on Tuesday October 27, 2015 at the high school from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. All families with kids in grades pre-K through 6th grade can attend.

Last year we had great success, I’m hoping for a better outcome this year. I know the kids really enjoyed it and that’s why we do this

— Carly Crofcheck, YAN president.

This event, organized by the Tyrone High School Youth Action Network (YAN), allows parents to bring their children for a night of safe trick or treating and activities.

“It doesn’t matter if you come as a princess, zombie, or pirate, but all are encouraged to wear their favorite costumes!” said Kendra Walker, senior YAN member.

Last year’s event was a huge success, attracting almost 700 visitors.

“The success of last year’s event was a total surprise.” said Cummins McNitt, YAN advisor, “We thought we might get about 200 people or so, but we drew 680!  We were ecstatic with the community response.  For weeks afterwards all the community could talk about was how much fun the families had.”

“We are hoping to have as many [people] as we had last year, but there is no way to predict this. Frankly, as long as our families have fun and feel a connection to the high school and district we will feel as though we have succeeded,” said McNitt.

Each participating school organization will have a spooky area of their own to host fun activities.

Some of the treats YAN has planned for this event include mask painting, professional family portraits for free, creepy crawly surprises, and much more.

“Last year we had great success, I’m hoping for a better outcome this year. I know the kids really enjoyed it and that’s why we do this; for them,” said Carly Crofcheck, President of YAN.

The Eagle Eye and Manning Photography will team up again to offer each family in attendance a professional Halloween themed photo portrait.  Parents will be able to download the photo for free after the event.
