Officer “Bub”: A welcoming face at TAHS

Officer Robert “Bub” Dick has been serving the students and staff of TASD for 12 years.

Officer Bub shows off a football with his beloved Dallas Cowboys logo.

Robert Dick is one of the most recognizable people at Tyrone Area High School, but if you ask students who Robert Dick is, many would probably give a puzzled look and not recognize the name.

That’s because Dick is known to almost everyone at the Tyrone Area School District simply as “Officer Bub,”  the school district’s police officer.  Bub is very dedicated to his job and is an important part of the Tyrone Area School District community.

“Watching the interaction between the teachers, students, and the administration” according to Officer Bub, is the most enjoyable part of his job.  He likes that the teachers are really dedicated to helping the students and making a difference in the kids’ lives.

Officer Bub has been a Police Officer in Tyrone for fourteen years. “I was a Tyrone Borough cop for two years, and I started working for the school as a police officer twelve years ago,” said Bub.

According to Bub, the most challenging thing about his job is “trying to get the troubled kids turned around and dealing with irate parents.”

Officer Bub loves working with kids.   “There is something new every day.  Kids are more genuine than adults. They keep me young!” he explained.

Officer Bub said the thing that really motivated him to become a police officer is to be good to society.  He chose his career “mainly to help people and to be somewhat good to society,” he said.

When Bub isn’t working he is lifting weights or doing cardio exercise.   He is also a big fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Tyrone Golden Eagle football team.

Bub was born and raised in Tyrone.   Before he became a police officer he worked at the Tyrone paper mill.

One other thing that makes Bub unique is his mustache.   How does he keep it so well-groomed?

“It really isn’t easy,” said Bub,  “but JC Barber shop is a big help with it.”
