Mr. Tanner Means Business at TAHS

Tyrone high school’s new business teacher Garrett Tanner didn’t always know that he wanted to go into education. “It took me until the second year of college to realize that I love working with teens,” said Tanner, “it was my favorite teachers and professors who inspired me to try the business field.”

Tanner teaches Accounting I, II, and III, Personal Finance, Technology (computer applications), and Multimedia I and II.  According to Tanner, the multimedia classes are his favorite to teach.

Follow your passion and don’t let discouraging words or fear get in your way

— Mr. Garrett Tanner

Tanner graduated from Indiana Area Senior High School in Indiana, Pennsylvania in 2009.

“I graduated high school with a class around 240 students,” approximately double the class size here at Tyrone Area High School.

Tanner received a Bachelor’s degree in business education and a minor in German in 2013 from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP).

Before coming to Tyrone, Tanner taught for one year at Williams Valley High School. He also taught a few months in Clarion, Pennsylvania.

Tanner enjoyed teaching at Williams Valley High but plans to have an even better time here at Tyrone.

He is already getting involved with the students by assisting with Homecoming along side Mrs. Tiffany Smith.

According to Tanner, he would also like to begin an outdoor adventure club at Tyrone.  Outdoor adventures are what Tanner is all about. In fact, his dream vacation is a backpacking trip across Canada and Alaska.

Tanner’s hobbies and interests include the outdoors, mountain biking, Chinese food, hiking, and identifying trees and plants.  He also enjoys drawing and painting, traveling, and tinkering with robots.

Tanner’s advice to his students is “Don’t let the little things bother you, but rather enjoy your life as much as you can now,’ and “follow your passion and don’t let discouraging words or fear get in your way.”

Mr. Tanner is here to show his students that he “means business…no joke, business!”
