The Lady Eagle’s came out on top with a 45-30 win over the Huntingdon Bearcats on Monday night despite a sluggish start.  Tyrone couldn’t get much going offensively, which left them tied with Huntingdon 7-7 at the end of the first quarter.

“It was ugly,” said Rhoades, “We weren’t executing our offense well, and we forced shots. When the shots weren’t falling, we started forcing them,”

The shooting woes and sluggish game offensively continued into the second quarter, and the Lady Eagles entered halftime with only a 19-15 lead.  After coming out of the locker room at the start of the third quarter, Tyrone dialed in on defense, which led to a bit of a spark.

We definitely didn’t play our best offensively, but our defense was the best we’ve had all year, now we just have to put it all together

— Sophomore Sydney Shaw

“We definitely didn’t play our best offensively, but our defense was the best we’ve had all year, now we just have to put it all together,” said sophomore guard Sydney Shaw.

The Lady Eagle’s began to put pressure on the ball handlers, which allowed them to force more turnovers and pick up buckets in transition.  Huntingdon was held to only 15 points in the entire second half, while Tyrone found some rhythm and scored 26.

The Lady Eagles were led by Engle with 20 points, while Alexis Cannistraci scored 11, and Sydney Shaw added eight.

Tyrone hopes to learn from this win and execute more efficiently tonight as they take on the Clearfield Bison at home.  Junior Varsity tips off at 6:00 p.m. and Varsity starts at 7:30 p.m.
