Lady Eagles lose to Penns Valley 56-50 on senior night

The Tyrone Lady Eagles share the 2015-2016 league title with the Penns Valley Lady Rams.

Tyrone Lady Eagles 2015-2016 seniors: Amber Gill, Marissa Sprankle, Finnley Christine, and Madison Noll.

On Friday night in the middle school gymnasium, the four Lady Eagle seniors were honored. Finnley Christine, Marissa Sprankle, Madison Noll, and Amber Gill shared an emotional time together as they received gifts from their teammates and heard tear jerking speeches from the underclassmen.

The Tyrone Lady Eagles fell to the Lady Rams and suffered their second loss of the season on their senior night.  Tyrone went into the game undefeated in the league while Penns Valley’s one loss came at the hands of the Lady Eagles earlier in the season.

We still accomplished our goal of a league title, it just so happens that we have to share it,

— Madison Noll

Dropping the game 56-50 resulted in a share of the 2015-2016 Mountain League Title.

¨We didn’t take care of the little things and we didn´t cherish every possession,¨ stated Coach Rhoades.

The Lady Eagles had at least five turnovers in every quarter, and didn’t quite have that ¨killer¨ instinct when going after loose balls. Tyrone was out rebounded, and out hustled throughout the entire game and couldn’t hit easy, wide-open shots.

¨We didn’t play with enough confidence,¨ added Kasey Engle, who scored a game-high 29 points.

Senior Madison Noll had one of her best games, chipping in nine points, including a buzzer three pointer to give the Lady Eagles the motivation going into half time.

¨I believe this loss is just a step for us to grow as a team. We still accomplished our goal of winning a league title, it just so happens that we have to share it,¨ Noll explained.

Tyrone however played a strong third quarter, out scoring the Lady Rams 17-13. Engle came alive in the third, driving to the basket and drawing a foul every chance she got. Engle also hit a pair of 3-pointers to spark the Eagles.

Alexis Cannistraci added seven points, while Lehman and Shaw combined for five.

Despite the loss, the Lady Eagles aren’t affected in the D6 AA playoff seedings. There is a very high chance that Tyrone could see Penns Valley somewhere in the playoffs, and they are hoping for a better outcome.

I believe if we meet them in playoffs, we can beat them,

— Kasey Engle

¨I believe if we meet them in playoffs, we can beat them,” Engle added.

Even though they couldn’t pull out the win, the Lady Eagles had an emotional senior night as they honored four seniors, one being Finnley Christine who as a result of a season ending injury had to sit on the sideline and watch.

“It stinks that i’m not able to contribute on the floor, but I cheer as loud as possible and trust me, they know i’m there. Senior night was memorable and something that I will forever cherish,” Christine stated.

The Lady Eagles are back in action tonight as they travel to Bald Eagle Area for their last regular season game before playoffs. Tip off is at 7:30.

Senior night was memorable and something that I will forever cherish,

— Finnley Christine
