Lady Eagles improve to 2-0 with a 79-54 win over PO

Engle and Christine combine for 42 points as the girls improve to 2-0.

Engle drives to the basket.

Led by four scorers in double digits, the Lady Eagles topped Philipsburg-Osceola 79-54.

The first quarter started off very fast, as the girls got up 10-0 3:00 into the game. Christine passed inside to Emily Lehman and Alexis Cannistraci, and scored two of her three three-pointers right out of the gate.

“We still aren’t shooting as a team where I know we could be but that will come as we get into better shape,” Coach Rhoades stated when comparing the last game to this game.

The girls looked like hungry sharks out there and I would not have wanted to be the team against them

— Coach Luke Rhoades

Despite connecting on eight three pointers, including three each from Kasey Engle and Finnley Christine, coach Rhoades is still not completely satisfied with how his girls are shooting.

“There were three minutes that we were unstoppable. The girls looked like hungry sharks out there and I would not have wanted to be the team against them, but then we had careless turnovers and those need to be eliminated,” said Rhoades.

The girls led 40-21 coming out of halftime but committed four early second half turnovers led to easy points and momentum for the Mounties.  But sticking with it, they forced six turnovers of their own and limited the Mounties to 3-15 shooting in the third quarter. Christine scored seven, and Engle added four along with two from Cannistraci in the third.

Kasey Engle led all scorers with 22 points, Finnley Christine with 20. While Alexis Cannistraci added 10 points and eight rebounds, Emily Lehman scored 13 points along with seven rebounds, and Marissa Sprankle netted six points.

Haylee Hayward and Halley Harrington each scored game high 23 points for the Mounties.

The girls will face Tussey Mountain Saturday at home in the first game of the boys-girls double header at 6:00 in the High School gymnasium.
