EE: What inspired you to become a teacher?

JA: I have always enjoyed helping students overcome their challenges. In elementary and high school at Tyrone, I appreciated the impact so many teachers had on me as a student. I hope I have inspired my students in a similar way.

EE: How long have you been teaching?

JA: This is my 13th year. I started in middle school and taught there for five years.

EE: Have you always taught at Tyrone? If not, where else?

JA: I was hired after graduating from Penn State in 2002.

EE: What is your favorite memory as a teacher?

JA: My favorite activity each year is attending graduation. As a learning support teacher, I had the opportunity of interacting with so many students over their entire high school careers. I love being a part of the transformation students go through from their freshmen to senior years.

EE: If you weren’t teaching right now, what do you think you would have done with your life?

JA: In my free time and during the summer, I love gardening and landscaping. If I were not teaching, I would have a career in this field.

EE: Where did you attend high school/ what year did you graduate?

JA: I was a 1998 graduate of Tyrone Area School District

EE: What’s your favorite movie?

JA:  I do not have a favorite movie—but enjoy watching reality television and shows on home renovation projects.

EE: Where did you attend college?

JA: Penn State

EE: What is your advice to the Class of 2016?

JA: You can achieve your goals with hard work and dedication.

EE: What is your dream vacation trip?

JA: I have not had much luck traveling on an airplane, but my one wish would be to take a getaway to a tropical destination with no weather, luggage, or flight issues.
