Inside the Huddle with Cullen Raftery: Week 4

Last week was great, as it was nice to come back from a horrible loss. Huntington, though, is now behind us. We have larger goals to achieve week by week we are getting closer. As soon as Saturday came along, the team meant business. It was time to get closer to another goal.

As we look towards our next opponent, we know they aren’t the best team in the area.  This will not make our performance dull throughout the week or on Friday. Our team is determined with the mindset of not stooping down to our opponent’s level.  We have declared this week not a week to beat Philipsburg, but to indeed excel our past weeks’ performances.

In order to make ourselves better, we are continuing to hit the weight room after practices, studying off the field to know what our specifics jobs are, and going hard at each practice. Captains and other players of all ages are continuing to step up and push the team to keep their heads on straight, helping to keep the future goals in sight.

Similar to last week, the leaders and captains of the team are still being tested by the coaching staff on how well they can guide the team to be better. Last week, different captains were chosen to do the coin toss at the beginning of the game. The coaches explained how they would like to see the old captains and leaders reacted in the game before appointing the positions back to the old players. This week the coaching staff has continued to hold off on who the captains will be this week in order to push the captains and leaders to continue to step up.

This week means lot more to our team than most people think.  This is a week for us to prepare for a further journey. It will be a week to experiment on what we are capable of and to also try new things with different people at new positions. Doing this does not mean we take a week off from the schedule, or even walk into the game thinking we already won. We will mean business on Friday for sure, but we will also be a better and more improved team from last week.
