From fun houses to not-so-fun houses that you can visit, here are 8 places you can go this Halloween.

Destinations 1-3 are close to home:

1. Camp Anderson – Tyrone, PA

Definitely the closest one to Tyrone High School, Camp Anderson’s haunted attractions are easy to get to and fun. At Camp Anderson you’ll have the wits scared out of you as you walk through their indoor and outdoor haunted rooms and woods, travel along a nerve rattling hayride, and end your evening by the largest bonfire in central PA.  While there guests can feast upon lots of great food.

The Haunted weekends will run tonight and Saturday night between 6 and 11 PM, both this weekend and next. Visitors will need to park at Smith Transport and take the bus to camp.  Cost of the Haunted House is $6.00 per person.

Haunted Camp Anderson is open October, 23rd, 24th, 30th, and 31st. All ages are welcome.

2.  Royer Mansion – Williamsburg, PA

Another local Halloween destination is Royer Mansion in Williamsburg.  The house was built in 1815 and was the former home of Samuel Royer.  The family moved in in 1821 and added an expansion after having a total of 10 kids to two wives. Today the house is prime real-estate for paranormal investigators, and on the 24th you can sit in on a seance and hear stories with Patty Wilson, a paranormal investigator, for $15. On the 31st, you can go inside the house with a paranormal team for the night, for only $20.  To read more about Royer Mansion click HERE  (Royer Mansion is about 2/3 down the page).

3. Altoona Railroaders Memorial Museum – Altoona, PA

Again, not really a haunted house but another creepy haunting that you can visit nonetheless. The museum is a treasure trove of railroad memorabilia and…Frank! Who is Frank, you ask? Frank is a notable ghost that routinely messes with the museum’s employees. On more than one occasion, employees have entered the gift-shop in the morning before opening time to find things gently laid on the floor and no sign of forced entry. Even creepier, a Paranormal team has picked up the sounds of children quietly giggling in the museums play-place, long after the museum has closed for the night. There were no windows open. Read more about Frank and the other hauntings HERE.

The last four places on the list are a little farther from Tyrone, but all are doable day trips:

4. Pennhurst Asylum – Spring City, PA

Now we’re getting into the more creepy places on this list. This abandoned university in Spring City is home to one of Pennsylvania’s (and probably the US’s) scariest haunted attraction, but it comes at a price, these are ranging from $16-$78.

Most of the campus is open for tours and some attractions, one of which sees participants wander the dark halls of the most presumably haunted building on campus, the Mayflower Building. It’s a dormitory that had been unused for 26 years and has been featured on Ghost Adventures and Ghost Hunters. 5. Eastern State Penitentiary – Philadelphia, PA

The Eastern State Penitentiary has had it’s share of appearances on the Eagle Eye at a spooky place, but now, you can go inside, really. Terror Behind the Walls is an attraction in Philadelphia that allows you to venture inside the Penitentiary and enjoy one or all of 6 attractions inside the cell-blocks of the prison. However, this, again, comes at a hefty price, $13-$45 per person. Read more about the attractions and the Penitentiary itself by clicking HERE.

6. Fort Mifflin – Philadelphia

Out on the Delaware River, Fort Mifflin hosts a plethora of different events, like candlelit ghost hunts, and Trick-or-Treat with the ghosts. All events are fit for children and attendants of the Trick-or-treat are urged to come in costume. Wanna go? Grab your tickets to these events and others by clicking HERE.

7. The Cathedral Of Learning – Pittsburgh, PA

The Cathedral of Learning, a Tyrone Mock Trial Team favorite and definitely not haunted right? Wrong. While not a proper haunted house attraction, it is a place that is open to visit the hours depend on what time of year it is because it is still a University of Pittsburgh campus building.

It is believed that one of the Nationality Rooms, the Early American Room, does in fact house a spirit. Who it is or why it’s there, nobody knows, but tourists in the 90’s going into the room have noted smelling fresh bread being baked. The room’s authentic fireplace hasn’t been used since the 1940’s. It is one of the only nationality rooms that is not used as a classroom. 8. Zombie 5k Run – Lancaster, PA

More of an activity rather than a spooky or eerie place to go this Halloween, the infamous Field of Screams is holding a different kind of 5k out in Lancaster.

This race has runners traversing different obstacles while avoiding the specially registered Zombies scattered around the course. When you sign up you can choose to be a Runner or a Zombie. The Runner’s goal is simple, avoid losing all three of your lives, these are in the form of ribbons and are lost in much the same manner as if one were playing flag football. Out of lives, out of the race. The Zombie’s goal is to remove as many lives from the Runners as possible. Runners get two optional obstacles that reward them with an extra life. There are runs both at night and in the day, and after all races for one specific day are over, there’s an undead afterparty for those who were zombies with food and music. Feel like registering? do it HERE.
