Tyrone head volleyball coach Michael Kraft enters the 2014-2015 season with high hopes but many questions remain about this year’s team.

The team hopes to improve on their 2-19 record from a season ago.

“[Last year’s senior] Lexi Patton will be missed as she was an outstanding talent on the court” said Kraft, “We will not be the most talented team in our league/district, but we are beginning to develop a sense of a “winning attitude” which is necessary in order to compete against the best teams.”

The returning seniors this year, Naomi Walk, Nicole Carol, Lindsey Kemp and Alesia Daly will provide a lot of senior leadership for the team and help them be successful.

On September 2nd the Tyrone Girls Volleyball team will face the Bellwood-Antis Blue Devils at the Tyrone middle school gym at 6:00. Many thoughts are circling about this year’s team.

“I think we will be a little slow at first because we haven’t played an actual game, but as the team goes on we will be more focused and loud like we are at practice” said sophomore Maddie Viet.

“It’s the first game so everyone’s going to be nervous but I think we’re going to do good” said senior Naomi Walk, “we’re a young team this year but we all work together so well and have put in so much time in the preseason to get better.  I think we can win! We’re going up against some really talented teams but I have no doubt that we’ll keep up with even the best teams if we play how we’ve been practicing.”

“I think we’ll do much better this year because of all Kraft has taught us” said senior Alesia Daly.

“What I want my girls to see is that talent can be beaten when you are willing to work hard enough.  When we understand this, we will compete at the highest level we can” said Kraft, “they know that with effort comes progress and with progress comes success.  They have been extremely willing to learn which has allowed us to make the progress we have within the last year.”
