After school Kasey can often be found in an otherwise empty gym taking shots

Officially sophomore Kasey Engle’s says that her off season training regimen is “top secret,” but anyone who spends time with her knows that it involves hours and hours of gym time.  Everyday.  Year round.

“I probably didn’t practice on Christmas, but I know did on Thanksgiving,” said Engle when asked if she ever takes a day off.

“I just make sure no one can out work me,” said Engle.

It is this work ethic that has helped the sophomore point guard to develop into one of the best girls’ basketball players in Tyrone history.

“Kasey works really hard during the off season and she is really focused. She sets high goals for each time she works out and her awards are a reflection of her work ethic,” said Lady Eagles head coach Luke Rhoades. “She is extremely goal driven which is why she works so hard.”

Engle’s work ethic doesn’t stop in the gym.  She also earns top grades in the classroom while maintaining a full schedule of honors classes.

“Observing Kasey in the classroom, its easy to see why she is so successful. She is always focused and hard working,” said social studies teacher Todd Cammarata, “she is a great role model as a student as well as an athlete.”

Engle started playing basketball in the third grade and after breaking on to the varsity scene last season, she already holds multiple school records.

This season she broke the school record for most three pointers in a single season with 90. The previous record was 78 .  She also broke the school record for most three pointers in a game by making eight against Bald Eagle.

Engle’s highest scoring game of the season was against Penns Valley when she scored 38 points, just two points shy of the single school record of 40.

We can safely assume that Engle spends a lot of time in her off season working on those threes.

“I think it is a true reflection of her work ethic,” said Rhoades.

Barring injury, Engle is on pace to be the leading scorer in all of Tyrone history. After this season her total career points sits at 808. The Tyrone career record of 1,562 is held by Sarah Grazier.

“[The individual awards] are a reflection of how great our team is and how they impact my performances. Without them, I’m nothing

— Kasey Engle

Engle was named the 2014-2015 MVP of the Mountain League and was also named to the 2015 Altoona Mirror All-Star team.

Ever the team player, Engle rarely seeks the spotlight and gives all the credit to her teammates and Coach Rhoades for her individual accomplishments.

“[The individual awards] are a reflection of how great our team is and how they impact my performances. Without them, I’m nothing,” said Engle.

Like every great athlete, Engle is not satisfied and admits that she still has some weak spots to work on.

“I definitely need to work on decision making as a point guard and strengthen my body,” says Engle. “I want to be the player that can go out on the court and make all of my teammates better.”

But in the end, the key to success for Engle is simple:

Hard work.
