DelGrosso’s 2016 Laguna Splash Waterpark expansion update

The Laguna Splash expansion is scheduled to open for the 2016 season.

The lazy river where “lazy” is split from “crazy.” The first bridge shown above the attraction connects the island to the main crosswalk. The second bridge connects the waterpark to the crosswalk.

Since first announcing the 2016 expansion of DelGrosso’s Laguna Splash Waterpark, area residents and Tyrone students have become increasingly excited to see the finished project.

While there is still a lot of progress to be made before opening day 2016, the project is definitely taking shape.

The $12.5 million addition will be“unique to this area,” said Justin Brown, the Director of Aquatics for Laguna Splash,There’s no one around within about an hour radius that has anything like this.”

“The lazy river isn’t going to be just your standard lazy river. It’s a ‘lazy-crazy-river’ with tipping buckets,” said Brown“Waterpark guests can reach up with their hands and hit a target above them and shoot water a couple feet ahead to splash somebody else. Then, somebody up ahead can hit another target that launches water backwards in the other direction.”

There are going to be so many neat features,” said Amy Mearkle, DelGrosso’s Director of Marketing said, “The bridge itself is going to be gorgeous along with water fountains and various Italian themes. It is going to be quite the destination to enjoy.

The wave pool will be zero entry so small children and those with physical disabilities can enter the water.   It will hold 311,500 gallons of water and be six feet at its deepest point.

There will be special height requirements for both the Wave Pool and Lazy River. Children under a certain height will have to wear life jackets and be accompanied by a supervising adult,” Mearkle said. Measurements are not official yet. They will be added to the DelGrosso’s website when they are official.

Of course DelGrosso’s is known for their delicious food, and the expansion will bring new menu items and restaurants to the park.

The expansion will feature five new food concession areas including a pizza and stromboli stand, a steakhouse featuring cheesesteaks, a pasta house serving various pastas with choice of DelGrosso sauces, a grill building located on an island on the lazy river, which will serve burgers and other items, and a sweets building with Italian desserts such as gelato and other favorites.

According to park officials, the expansion will require 100 to 130 additional employees during the park season. There will be openings for lifeguards, gate attendants, EMTs, customer service representatives, ticket booth staff, maintenance and food concessions.

As long as Mother Nature is good to us this winter we should stay on schedule

“Anyone interested in applying can watch the website www.delgrossos.com and click on employment. By January 1 people can start looking, and maybe before that,” said Brown. To become a lifeguard, you must be at least 16 years of age and older.

According to Mearkle, the project is right on schedule.

The park plans to have the main entrance area and a few of the food stands open for Opening Day on May 7, 2016. The waterpark itself will have its grand opening Memorial Day weekend.

“As long as Mother Nature is good to us this winter we should stay on schedule,” said Mearkle.

Current all day pass prices will increase to $29.95, so park officials encourage guests to take advantage of the early bird specials in November and get a Season Pass by December, 31st 2015 for $69.95. All season pass rules and regulations are found at www.mydelgrossopark.com/tickets/season-pass
