Dance Fusion Competition Team Dances Their Way to Victory

A local competitive dance team has had an award-winning season in 2013.

So far, the Dance Fusion Competition Team has been awarded with 11 high golds, 23 golds, and 14 high silvers.  Other awards include, 10 First Place Overalls, a Second Place Overall, a Tenth Place Overall,  an Outstanding Senior Dancer award, given to Karah Postreich, 2 Showstopper awards, numerous Judges’ awards, and 2 Backstage Awards.

Dance Fusion, a dance studio in Tyrone, has had a competition team for 10 years now.  The studio is owned by Lindsay Pullara.  Multiple teachers choreograph at the studio including Tessa Rossi, Ana Rossi, Mara Poorman, Leanne Kimmen, Jennifer Harry and Stephanie Lynn.  Diana McGough, a teacher from Holliday Dance in Hollidaysburg has also choreographs a few of the team’s dances.

The team traveled to two talent competitions, and will attend a third in April.   The competitions were Celebration Talent Competition in Johnstown, Pennsylvania on February 16, and Groove Dance Competition in Lititz, PA on March 22-24. The last competition the dancers will travel to is Nexstar National Talent Competition in Lancaster, PA during the weekend of April 12.

“The team has improved by leaps and bounds in technique and commitment. Everyone works harder with less drama,” stated Pullara.

All of the staff hopes that next year will be an even better year.  Although they are losing their high school seniors, who are all very talented dancers, the team wants to rebuild quickly and come back stronger than ever, according to Pullara.

Rossi said, “I would like to see the team continue to take technique classes to further their skill level. New dance skills build excitement in a team, leading to better dances and performances.”

The seniors on the competition team this year are Abby Dutrow, Karah Postreich, and Tifani Sprankle.

Sprankle confessed, “The thing I will miss the most is definitely spending the weekends with my [dance] family and friends.”

The Dance Fusion Competition Team appreciates all of the support from the community and all of the students at Dance Fusion. Their next local performance will be the annual recital, held in the Tyrone Area High School auditorium on May 24 and 25.
