Senior Erika Voyzey probably had a harder time picking her college than any other Tyrone senior this year. It was a good problem to have, as Voyzey was recruited by multiple Division 1 programs for her ability in her signature event, the high jump.

Voyzey is the two-time defending PIAA state high jump champion.  She placed third this winter at the New Balance Indoor Nationals in New York City, and she is continually beating personal records as she tears through her senior track season.

After considering many options, today Voyzey chose to attend The University of Miami next fall.  The Hurricanes are currently the top national ranked track and field team in the ACC.

A top student as well as a top athlete, she will major in aerospace and mechanical engineering.

EE: Why did you choose to go to this college?

EV: I chose University of Miami because I fell in love with the campus and of course their track team. The U also has my exact major and tons of research programs right on campus.

EE: What are  you most excited for in college?

EV: Absolutely everything! I can’t wait to study what I want and continue my track career with an amazing team.

EE: What will you miss the most about playing sports at TAHS?

EV: I’ll definitely miss my coaches and team the most. It seems like my freshman year was just a little bit ago.

EE: What advice would you give to younger athletes?

EV: Fall in love with the process and practices. Once you love what you do, no one can stop you; you’re limitless.

EE: What is your intended major?

EV: Dual major in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering.
