Clearfield snatches game away from Tyrone in OT

The Tyrone boys took on the Clearfield Bison at home Wednesday looking to win after a heartbreaking game in Huntingdon. However their efforts did not pay off as they suffered a 3-2 loss in overtime.

Tyrone, once again, started the game off very slow and struggled to keep possession. Clearfield’s communication, passing, and strong midfield presence gave the Bison some promising opportunities. Tyrone’s strong defense, with help from senior goalkeeper Anthony Politza, managed to keep the first half scoreless at 0-0.

Going into the second half Tyrone needed a spark, and they got just that after senior Noah D’Angelo put one into the net just 5 minutes in. However, Clearfield was quick to answer when just two minutes later they scored.

“It looked like we had the momentum after Noah’s goal to start the half, but then they answered back just a few minutes later, that was a huge momentum changer,” said sophomore Asher Christine

Ten minutes later, Clearfield scored again to take the lead and Tyrone’s boys just looked beat. They needed something to go there way if they were going to continue.

With about 10 minutes left, senior Noah D’Angelo took a hard tackle in the box to earn a penalty shot. Like usual, D’Angelo sunk it and tied it up. Once again there was a another momentum swing. Tyrone carried that momentum leading to two more shots on goal before regulation came to a close.

Going into overtime it looked like Tyrone had the advantage, but like a flashback to the first half, Clearfield came out and showed great possession and passing from the midfield.

After 5 minutes of holding off the Bison in overtime they made it down the field to earn a corner kick after a save from Anthony Politza.

Clearfield’s effort looked to be soiled after the cross went directly to senior defender Eric Hartsock, but after an unlucky deflection the ball ended up in the back of Tyrone’s net. Just like that, Tyrone suffered a heartbreaking 3-2  loss in overtime for the second straight game.

“Even Tony, Mountain League’s best goalkeeper, couldn’t stop that ball from rolling in,” said Coach Miller
