Boys soccer playoff preview

The Golden Eagles enter the playoffs this week as the first seed.

Senior Zach Friday and Bailey Christine moves the ball vs. Penns Valley on Senior Night

Just two years ago the Tyrone boys varsity soccer team finished with a record of 3 wins and 14 losses. This year they are preparing to play in the District 6 semi finals for the second year in a row.

Last season the team fell to the Phillipsburgh Osceola Mounties 2-1 in overtime of the semifinal round. The Mounties eventually went on to beat Bellefonte in the championships 3-0 as Tyrone went into their offseason.

Tyrone finshed this year’s regular season with a record of 13-4-1. This record by the team is the best record for a Tyrone team surpassing last years record of 10-5-2.

Their last game was Tyrone’s Senior Night where the Golden Eagles fell 4-3 in an upset loss to the Rams of Penns Valley. Tyrone led Penns Valley 3-0 at halftime but could not preserve the lead giving up 4 goals in the second.

This definately was a dissapointment for a Tyrone team who only gave up an average 1.59 goals a game.

On Tuesday October 29th the first seeded Tyrone Golden Eagles will play Juniata at Tiger Stadium in Hollidaysburg at 7:30 pm.

Juniata sports a record of 10-7 and is seeded fifth in the playoffs this year. They are scoring an average 2.17 goals per game and only allowing and average 1.11 goals per game.
