In an exciting match that went to five sets, the Tyrone Lady Eagles varsity volleyball team beat the Central Dragons for the first time ever on Tuesday.

But imagine the Tyrone girls disappointment when they opened the newspaper on Wednesday to read that, according to the Altoona Mirror, Central had won the match.

It doesn’t matter what the newspaper says. I don’t care. I know that we won and that’s all that matters

— Head Coach Mike Kraft

Although the stats from the game were correct, the Mirror’s headline and story were not.

“It doesn’t matter what the newspaper says. I don’t care. I know that we won and that’s all that matters,” said Tyrone Head Coach Michael Kraft.

While the mistake didn’t bother Coach Kraft, several of the girls on the team were a little upset that their victory didn’t get proper recognition in the newspaper.

“This is very annoying because we beat them for the first time ever, but now people who didn’t go to the game will think Central won. That makes me really mad,” said junior Torrie Foy.

“I was mad to find out that the paper wrote we didn’t win, because Central was a big win for us. I wish people would have known the real truth,” said junior Emily Fusco.

The Altoona Mirror does a lot for the entire Tyrone community, but the girls on the Tyrone volleyball team wish (at least in this case) they would have gotten their facts straight.
